BIM Technical Committee in ISCCBE
Motivation
In recent years, BIM (Building Information Modeling) has become significantly popular in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry all over the world. Other related industrial sectors such as oil and gas, and mining, started to have increasing interests in using BIM as the operation and Facility Management tools. However, the adoption of BIM varies from country to country due to differences in government strategy and policy, business environment, technology development, industry culture, educational support, etc. Therefore, there exists great opportunities among international ISCCBE members to share the best practices and case studies of BIM, exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences in addressing issues related to BIM adoption in their countries or regions, leading to possible collaborative research efforts on BIM technology and education development. Such synergy can increase the BIM benchmark practice in specific industries in their own countries.
Aim and objectives
The principal aim of the technical committee (TC) is to promote the sharing and exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experiences on issues related to BIM adoption among different countries (or regions) around the world. Through the sharing and exchange, information and knowledge accumulated will serve as a good foundation for possible international collaboration in BIM research, education, and industrial practices.
The main objectives of the TC are:
Membership
The TC members shall include one or two BIM experts recommended by each interested member society/institution of ISCCBE. The Chair (and Co-Chair) of the TC shall be nominated and approved by the ISCCBE BOD. The secretary of the TC shall be elected by the Chair and approved by the TC members. The TC may decide to invite experts from non ISCCBE member countries or regions to serve as invited contributors of the TC, who have all the privileges and responsibilities of TC members except they cannot be chair, co-chair or secretary of the TC.
Responsibilities and activities
Financing
Basically the activities of the TC will be carried out with the funds provided by participating members.
