Categorization of Global BIM Publications
Today, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been widely explored and embraced in more than sixty-five countries. Globally, BIM players in policy, technology and process fields are significantly contributing towards BIM research with several directions for improving the building design, construction & operation process. Here, through an extensive review of thousand BIM publications delivered from sixty-five countries, these global BIM publications are categorized here into three major themes: BIM fields, PLC stages and BIM Uses. First, BIM fields are the 12 current researched directions for BIM identified by Iskidag & Underwood (2010) from exhaustive literature reviews. Second, PLC stages include pre-construction, construction, post-construction and whole life cycle stages. Third, BIM Uses include 73 domain model uses organized under seven model use series as provided in episode 24 of BIM ThinkSpace (2015).
